Fish and chips remains one of the nation’s favourite meals, but in a time when everyone is a ‘foodie’ can this traditional meal cope with a high end make over? We visited a Cirencester chip shop which serves some of the fanciest fish suppers we’ve ever seen to find out. A number of venues across the county have received awards for their food, and after being named one of the best chippys in the UK at the end of 2019, Malt & Anchor was definitely one we had to investigate. The venue is located in Cirencester on Castle Street and as soon as you walk through the door, it’s clear that this isn’t like most other chippys, for a start it has a separate drinks menu which includes a £200 bottle of Dom Perignon as an option. The decor feels very modern and includes a number of nautical elements – including various different shades of blue – in a nod to their namesake.
