T-Mobile releases video teaser for August 15th Un-carrier announcement

With one week to go before T-Mobile’s next Un-carrier move, CEO John Legere has dropped a teaser for the big announcement. The brief video shows Legere sealing a wooden crate that’s labeled “Decommissioned” and then wheeling it into a room that holds “Relics of the wireless industry”. There are references to things T-Mobile has targeted with past Un-carrier moves, like contracts, data limits, and taxes and fees. Unlike some of the other guys, we like to retire relics…not buy them Mark your calendar for 8/15…you won’t want to miss this! #Uncarrier #WeWontStop pic.twitter.com/QcvH8kzu38 T-Mobile will officially reveal its next Un-carrier move on August 15th. Now that we’ve got this new video teaser, what do you think T-Mo is planning to announce? “There are references to things T-Mobile has targeted with Un-carrier moves, like contracts, data limits, and taxes and fees.” Well actually you still have a choice to go tax free with the ONE plan as you don’t have that choice with the other guy’s… I get it, and I am on ONE, but honestly; if they’re gonna brag about it, it should apply to all their plans. Of course, they were also bragging about having only one plan when they launched O...

Energy Saving Tips for Summer – The 25 Easiest Ways to Cut Home Cooling Costs

Is the heat getting to you? Everyone knows that air conditioning can get expensive. But not everyone knows about these simple, budget-minded ways to keep your cool. Read on for beat-the-heat suggestions to help you stay sane through the dog days of summer. The advent of air conditioning has led many homeowners to disregard the low-tech coping strategies that worked decently well for people even in the recent past. Surround your home with shade-creating elements, such as landscaping, awnings, or trelliswork, to reduce the amount of solar heat gain within spaces indoors.  Creating shade with the help of smart landscaping design is one thing, but don’t forget about shading your living space from the indoors, too. Draw the blinds to keep the sun from heating the room and consider hanging heavier curtains to block the rays. Medium-colored draped with a white backing are said to reduce heat gains by 33%. Take your window coverings an extra step with tinted window film. The simple DIY window treatment, which you can find on Amazon or at any home repair store, is another option that will block heat-causing rays from warming your home. Pursue what’s known as the stack effect. To ac...

Sacramento News & Review – A life without bumblebees – Off Menu – Dining

Where would we be without tomatoes? The majority of pizzas would crumble without their essential marinara foundation, and fast food fries without ketchup are a risky proposition. And imagine having no access to good squash, watermelon or pumpkin—that could put three different meals in jeopardy. All those foods owe a major debt to bumblebees, according to bee rescuer Daniel Schoenthal. Those fuzzy bees have special talents not shared by their honeybee brethren. Bumblebees have the advantage in size, allowing them to shake out heavier pollens. And their longer tongues help them reach deeper honey pots in herbs and plants such as lavender. “Some greenhouse crops now are 100% pollinated by introduced bumblebees,” Schoenthal says. “You can order them over the internet. Tomatoes, peppers, these are crucial.” Schoenthal, who runs the Orangevale-based bee rescue service Blue Green Horizons, says bumblebees can nearly guarantee that every flower on a tomato plant gets pollinated, with roughly an 85% success rate. For honeybees, it’s only a 15% chance. But there’s a catch: Bumblebees need early access to nectar, ideally as soon as February and March, so queen bees can start hives. That pr...

Bridlington – or Brid – is the big bag-for-life of fun. The whole package. Especially when

Bridlington – or Brid – is the big bag-for-life of fun. The whole package. Especially when the Yorkshire weather starts warming up and everyone’s suddenly out. Fairground rides are creaking back to life, and gulls are perched, ready in waiting for the new season’s offering of vinegar-soaked chips and bubblegum-flavour ice cream. If you were brought up on seasides as a child, this is the nostalgia you’ve been craving. As I walk down South Beach, I gaze at a very British postcard of families huddled behind windbreaks, serious sandcastles abandoned among brightly coloured buckets and spades, couples canoodling on the rocks and kites bobbing in the air. California’s horrific wildfires of 2017 and 2018 caught most people off-guard, but they did not surprise

California’s horrific wildfires of 2017 and 2018 caught most people off-guard, but they did not surprise astute observers of state wildfire policy and management. Critics had warned for many years that worsening conditions across the state were increasing the risk of a “perfect storm” of cataclysmic wildfires. The failure to heed those warnings has prompted the Independent Institute to award a group of public agencies—led by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire)—its eighth California Golden Fleece® Award, a dishonor given quarterly to California state or local agencies or government projects that swindle taxpayers or break the public trust. Although Cal Fire has blamed Pacific Gas & Electric Company for causing the state’s deadliest wildfire, we find Cal Fire and other state and federal agencies to be at fault for allowing fuel conditions to persist that enabled so many wildfires to reach epic proportions. Multiple government officials and agencies contributed to the unprecedented destructiveness of the 2017 and 2018 wildfire seasons by pursuing, for decades, misguided priorities and perverse incentives. This includes impeding sensible and effe...

How Zoobox took a leaf from the book of Ikea for its eco-lodges

BACK IN HIS home place of Quebec, Guillaume Pellerin’s background lay heavily in the outdoors and eco-tourism. “In my previous life I was an outdoor guide,” Pellerin says. “Basically my job was to bring people to nature. The funny thing is I realised that I was bringing people outside that were already hardcore outsiders so they didn’t really need me.” At something of a crossroads career-wise, he came across the idea for Zoobox – an environmental housing structure for tourists – when he met his co-founder Alain Chagnon, who was a real estate developer, and the two meshed their ideas. A Zoobox eco-lodge structure borrows from the Ikea school of thought in that they are quick to assemble. They can be erected in the wilderness relatively easy and one structure houses up to six people. Typically made with a timber frame, Zooboxes don’t require excavation as most buildings normally would and, given their light materials, can be exported with little hassle. Pellerin saw some initial interest in Quebec for Zooboxes but identified Europe as a better market to get up and running and opted for Ireland as the new home for Zoobox. “It has a good international market for the size of the cou...
